How Identity Theft Affects Me?
The effects of Identity Fraud can take on many different forms dependent on the length of time the fraud has gone unnoticed and your personal circumstances at the time. In the most serious cases, victims have lost their savings, their homes and even their businesses to criminals who have taken Identity Fraud to the furthest level. Fortunately, most cases are not quite so serious but it can still take years to untangle the threads of deception.
Research by the Victims of Fraud service at Experian shows that average Identity Fraud losses range from almost £2,000 on a credit card to more than £7,000 on a current account and that it can take up to 500 hours of work to sort out the mess. In the meantime, the victim often finds it impossible to get a credit card, loan or mortgage – which is a major inconvenience for most people
